A stay between city, polders and sea

A quiet stay near Bruges

Experience Bruges, unwind at Polderlicht.

  • Three guest rooms
  • Free parking at the guesthouse
  • Among the polders

A walk along the canals, a museum that stays with you, one more trip into town for dinner. And then back to the polders. At Guesthouse Polderlicht you stay with Carine in Uitkerke, Blankenberge, at Bosstraat 3. A small-scale stay with three rooms, a garden and room to follow your own rhythm.

Driving times to central Blankenberge and the Centrum-Station car park in Bruges. Indicative and traffic-dependent; parking and walking not included.

City and countryside

A day full of impressions. A place to savour it.

Visiting Bruges doesn’t mean spending your whole stay in the city centre. At Polderlicht you combine culture, shops and historic streets with the open space of the polders. After your outing you can relax in your own room or read downstairs in the shared living area.

That suits a weekend in which you like to do different things: a day in Bruges, outdoors the next morning and perhaps a quick trip to the sea. You have your own room and share the guest kitchen, the communal space and the garden with other guests.

Choose what suits you

What would you like to experience in Bruges?

You don’t have to tick Bruges off like a list. Choose a few places that make you curious and keep time to look around. From Polderlicht you can make your city visit as big or small as you like.

Historic streets and canals

Start at the Markt and the Burg, walk to the Rozenhoedkaai and follow the water along the Dijver. If you want to walk further, add the Beguinage and the Minnewater to your day. Pick a place for a break along the way and let the route follow your mood and the weather.

Art and a museum visit

Make room for one museum you really want to see. At Museum Sint-Janshospitaal the historic building and the works of Hans Memling come together. Check in advance what is open on your day and whether you need tickets. That way you keep time for the city itself as well as culture.

Shopping and an evening out

Take an afternoon for shops, a coffee break and a walk without a tight schedule. If you stay for dinner in Bruges or see a performance, your day doesn’t have to end after shopping. Choose a car park that suits your plans in advance and also check how you will return to Polderlicht later.

An idea for your stay

Two nights, time for Bruges and the polders

With two nights you can combine a full city day with a relaxed arrival and some fresh air before you leave. This is a suggestion to fill in yourself; it does not come with a fixed programme or package.

  1. Arrive and settle in

Arrange your arrival with Carine, take your luggage to your room and discover the house and garden. Keep your first afternoon simple. Perhaps a short walk, perhaps just a calm look at your plans for tomorrow. During your stay you park your car for free on the grounds.

  2. A day in Bruges

Choose your car park based on your first stop. Combine a walk through the historic centre with a museum, shopping or a longer lunch. If you’d like to enjoy an evening in town, arrange the practical return in advance. Then your own room at Polderlicht awaits.

  3. One more time outdoors

Start your last morning at your own pace and check out by 11 a.m. at the latest. Before heading home, you can plan a walk in the Uitkerkse Polder or by the sea. Choose the route according to the weather and the time you have. That way the landscape also gets a place in your stay.

Something to experience outside the city too

From Bruges façades to open polder land

It’s exactly that contrast that makes staying at Polderlicht special: the city by day, then the landscape around the house. You don’t have to head out every free morning. Sitting in the garden for a while, reading or making coffee downstairs in the guest kitchen is just as much part of a few days away.

Fancy a walk? Discover the routes in the Uitkerkse Polder. In winter too this is an area for bird lovers, with overwintering geese and ducks. Take wind, daylight and the condition of the paths into account. On the surroundings page you’ll find inspiration for combining polders and coast with your visit to Bruges.

From the door to your city visit

To Bruges: first choose where you want to arrive

You set off from Bosstraat 3, 8370 Blankenberge. Your journey time differs depending on whether you drive to the Markt, the Ezelstraat area or the station. Open the route to the car park that suits your day. Driving, finding a space and walking on are separate parts of your journey.

At Polderlicht you park for free during your stay. The Bruges car parks below charge the operator’s rates.

Biekorf — close to the Markt

Naaldenstraat 8, 8000 Brugge

If you want to park close to the Markt, Biekorf is one option. From this centrally located garage you reach the Markt after a short walk. According to Interparking the car park is accessible day and night. Before leaving, check the driving route, rates and current information.

Planning your arrival and return

Coming to Polderlicht first and heading into town afterwards? Arrange on arrival how you’ll get in later. If you drive to the guesthouse for the first time after your evening in Bruges, discuss your arrival time with Carine in advance. She makes the practical arrangements with you personally.

For the way back, also allow for the walk to your car and leaving the garage. Coming without a car? Check your full outward and return journey before booking, especially after an evening activity. The last connection or the availability of a taxi can be decisive for your plans.

Outside summer too

Bruges in winter, nights in the polders

A museum in the afternoon, wintry shops and one more evening in the historic city: a winter visit to Bruges combines well with a stay at Polderlicht. Plan your city walk around an indoor activity and leave room for a longer break if the weather turns.

The next morning you can choose again: discover more of Bruges, walk in the polders or get some fresh air by the sea. You don’t have to fill your whole weekend.

Wintergloed 2026–2027

Wintergloed runs from 20 November 2026 to 31 January 2027 inclusive. The Christmas markets take place from 20 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 inclusive. Each part has its own calendar, so check the programme for the day of your visit.
